Frank Mugglestone passed away on Friday, January 4th, 2019 aged 94. Frank was born in Swinton, Yorkshire on July 22, 1924. He is survived by his wife Betty, daughters Philippa and Anne, and granddaughter Amanda. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 22, 2019.


Mrs. Brenda Bates, nee Loseby died on 21st June 2020, aged 86. Brenda started at Dixie in 1945.

The funeral service, for immediate family only, took place on Wednesday July 8th at Countesthorpe Crematorium.


The death has been announced of Norman Hammersley who joined Dixie in September 1951.

No further details are available at the moment.


It is with great sadness that we have to report the death on Christmas Day of our member Richard J. Palmer M.B.E.

Richard joined the School in 1957. He was the son of our oldest member Kay Palmer, widow of former Chemistry Master "Joe" Palmer.

Richard was awarded the M.B.E. in the Queen's Birthday Honours list of 2006 for "Services to Technical Publication".

His sister Rosemary, also a former member of DGSA, died in October 2019.

Funeral arrangements will be posted when they are available.

DGSA member Peter Loseby has again volunteered to represent the Association in whatever way is possible in compliance with Covid-19 Regulations.


The death is announced of Brian Oakley, a pupil at Dixie from 1948 - 53.  He married Glynis (nee Croman) who started at the School in 1956.  The funeral service was held on 27th November at St.  Andrew’s Parish Church, Carlton, followed by interment in the Cemetery.

We have just been informed that our member David England, who joined the School in  Evans House in 1949, passed away on October 22nd 2020. His family have asked that his school pals please be notified. Due to Covid-19 regulations a ‘Family Only’ funeral was held. David was the Chief Environmental Health Officer at Oadby & Wigston Borough Council before retiring.
